1956
Born in Concepción, Chile

1973
Enrolled in the Fine Arts faculty of the University of Chile, Santiago.

1976
Held his first solo exhibition in Santiago, sponsored by the Ministry of Education.

1977
Named assistant Professor of drawing of the Fine Arts faculty of the University.

1978
Obtained his Fine Arts degree with honours in Painting. His thesis on ¨Light, Vision and Materials¨ having been awarded the maximum distinction.

1979
Travelled to Madrid to complete the development of his art. Studied Anatomy and Drawing in the Fine Arts faculty of the Complutense University of Madrid.

1985
Obtained Spanish nationality and residency.

1986
Held his first solo exhibition in Europe. Since then he has painted for many galleries and intermediaries, holding many solo exhibitions, collections and contemporary art fairs, principally in Spain, Germany, Italy and the U.S.

1991
Published his first book of collected works containing his paintings completed during his 1981-1991 period.

1994
Together with the painter Carmen Spinola, he founded the ARAUCO “art studios” project, a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary working environment for artists where their creative vision and the tasks related to painting, engraving, photography, theatre, music and graphic design can co-exist. Muñoz Vera is ARAUCO´s co-Director and drawing and painting professor.

1996
Named Vice President of the Spanish Foundation “Arte y Autores Contemporáneos” created by ARAUCO. Since then, he has actively worked in and promoted not-for-profit cultural activities by creating studios for education, exhibitions of Artes Plasticas, scholarships for young painters, organisation, concerts, plays etc.

1997
Moved to Chinchon, a few kilometres South of Madrid. Set-up his studio in the Casa Dusmet, a 17th century hall, which, following substantial renovation, was transformed into the headquarters of the Foundation, giving studios and residence to Spanish and non-Spanish painters and students.

2000
Held his first retrospective exhibition, sponsored by the Madrid local Government, in the Centro Cultural de la Villa, showing 27 years of his work through more than 140 works collected from private collections around the world.

2003
Painted and donated two works for the Palacio de la Moneda, Chile, as a contribution to the commemorative activities for the 30th anniversary of the death of President Salvador Allende and condemnation of the start of the dictatorship led by Pinochet on 11th September 1973.

Commissioned by the Spanish National Heritage office to do a portrait of His Majesty The King of Spain entitled “Juan Carlos I, cazador”

2004
Completed the restoration work of the new Foundation headquarters in Chinchon, the Montehermoso Palace, where he set-up his new studio next to the post-graduate studios, classrooms, galleries, student residences, etc.
works on the “Chile Today” project commissioned by the Government of Chile, with official sponsorship of the Chilean Central Bank, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Republic of Chile - 180 square meters of his creation which will be placed in the subway station La Moneda in 2005, in which he reflects his vision of the country through 14 murals of the countryside and cities.

Today, Muñoz Vera combines his painting activities with the cultural management of the Foundation, where he works as the Professor of Painting and Director of the Academy. Guillermo Muñoz Vera is considered one of the leading exponents of the New Spanish Realism movement.
